CHAPTER FORTY
She soon sent a note to Edward, requesting that he go to see her, as she had to speak to him about an important matter.
"Colonel Brandon has desired me to offer you an income at his country home. It is about two hundred a year, but may give you both a great deal of happiness," she said quite nervously.
"Colonel Brandon!" he said after a pause.
"Yes," continued Elinor, "Colonel Brandon wishes to help you in any manner he can, as he cares about you both very deeply."
"Colonel Brandon give me an income? Can it be possible?"
"Indeed," replied Elinor, "he is an excellent man, and wishes you happiness, just as I do."
Elinor then gave him Colonel Brandon's address, and he left, sincerely thanking her for her help, but looked pained as he spoke.
"When I see him again," said Elinor to herself, as the door shut, "I shall see him as the husband of Lucy."
